Chez Jay is a first and foremost a family business staffed and managed by the very people who actually own it. That means a very special deal for all our clients which we believe no other ski company can match. Even the person who cleans the showers has a personal interest in your comfort and satisfaction; and you can imagine how that affects your holiday when it comes to the chef and the chalet manager!

Moreover, our business has been built upon many years of successful hotel operating in Britain where we gained first class experience at the highest levels. Our chefs have prepared exclusive wedding banquets for hundreds of guests whilst our managers have attended the needs of the most discerning customers in romantic castles and city centre hotels alike.

But it is not just for our dedication and professionalism that you should choose to ski with Chez Jay We have made our home here in the French Alps and all the staff are not only very experienced skiers but as knowledgeable of the local mountains as anyone. When the slopes are busy we know where to avoid the queues. We know where the best snow conditions are each day and where the most suitable runs are for each standard of skiing. And most of all, we know how to get the most out of a day on the mountain. For us, skiing is not simply a thrill to be gained through flying down the pistes at the highest speeds. We love the mountains themselves; the forests and the wildlife, the remote stone lodges and the sheer blissful silence of nature in mid winter. We love the 'art' of skiing.

CHALET HOSTS

Each Chalet is staffed by a team of two or three; the principal host, a chef and a housekeeper. That means there is always someone on hand to assist you even though your problem might arise at the busiest moments. They strive to create an atmosphere of domestic comfort befitting much welcomed guests to their home. A Ski Chalet is not a hotel. It has none of the formality of business about it. There are no cash registers or dress codes or waiters to tip. Your hosts, whenever possible, will dine with all the guests around a single large table where all the buzz of a traditional dinner party is heard each evening.

Who is Jay ?

Jay was born in Nepal and is training to represent his country at World and Asian alpine skiing events. He is the first member of the Royal Nepalese Ski Team and is coached here in the resort by British coaches.

Arc 1600 is home to the largest UCPA ski centre and some of the best French coaches, so he also commutes on ski from our chalet in Villaroger to use their training facilities.

He can also teach many a seasoned skiier, twice his age, a trick or two in modern ski technique.

Ski Companions

The French Government has introduced laws in an attempt to ban the old concept of ski guiding as offered by many tour operators. Hence we are not able to guarantee the company of our hosts on the slopes and such is expressly not included in the price of your holiday.

However, with justifiable interpretation, we consider it perfectly legal for you to ski with some of our local friends as your companions should you wish. Any choice to do so must be entirely at your own risk and the company will bear no responsibility for any injury you might sustain anywhere outside the chalet, whether or not in the company of any staff member or associate.

We very much regret this situation as we feel companionship on the slopes, particularly for the single skier, to be not only an inherent part of traditional Alpine hospitality but also a matter of safety for newcomers to these slopes. Not only are many guests unwilling to employ a hired guide but much of the value of the experience lies in sharing the recollections of it afterwards at dinner. Ski companionship is not instruction and neither does it involve testing speed or dangerous conditions. Companions will merely strive to give you a safe and enjoyable time, as any friend would do.
