Skiing: Les Arcs

Plans and Routes

Les Arcs is popular with the French because the skiing is advanced and the huge domain has up to date equipment and few queues. Skiing with Chez Jay is better because you can choose to just stay on your own "private" mountain which has an incredible allure because of its tranquility and diversity of testing runs and off-piste routes.
Number of runs : 121 (17 black, 40 red, 54 blue and 10 green)
Number of lifts : 64 (1 funicular, 1 cable-car, 3 gondolas, 30 chairs and 29 drags)
Marked pistes : 200 km of sign-posted and groomed runs
Snowboarding: 1 Snow park and 1 Half pipe (floodlit)
X Country: 15 kilometres of trails, sign-posted and groomed.

Don't feel you have to be a top athlete to ski here because there are plenty of gentle slopes and picturesque routes through trees, but if you want some adventure - it is here waiting for you.

Pictured is "deux tetes", a connection between Arcs 1600 and 2000 with scenic views of Mont Blanc.

The Longest Black run in the world:

maps/longest descent

Ending at the back door of our chalet!!

The run length is about 16km but the real measure is the vertical descent which is a lung shattering, leg smashing 2 kilometers.

The black piste criss-crosses red and blue pistes so you can take it easy for some stretches.

Don't forget the rest of the Arcs:

The main ski area - Les Arcs - Peisey- Vallandry - Villaroger - extends from the top of the Aiguille Rouge cable car at 3226metres altitude down to the resorts.

Night skiing : 3 flood lit runs and 1 flood lit half pipe

1 permanent speed skiing stadium

1 FIS approved competition stadium

1 snowpark with half pipe and permanent boarder cross

Snow makers at 1600 and 1800 (20 ha)

New - for beginners:

A brand new piste has been opened this season which allows skiiers to take a blue piste all the way down to Le Pre de Villaroger. Incidentally; the Les Arcs radio station has been citing the Villaroger sector as having the best snow conditions in the report.

If you ever get bored of the infinite variety of descents available on your doorstep, you can ski round the corner to the rest of Les Arcs. The World Cup slalom and special slalom are scheduled in February at Arc 1600.

The world's fastest skiiers compete on the Arc2000 speed piste - a neighbour of ours clocked 122mph on a monoboard, giving him the world record this year.
Especially with the boarders, a lot happens at Arcs1800 in the evening.
